chapter 25, page 29 (the top three panels only)
A montage of three of the masters he served before Tarnia. Each flashbacks range from years to lifespans, but none of them show how the masters died and/or how the contracts broke. There's a definite impression that there were other masters before and after these ones.
chapter 27, pages 30-35
Hilario sees Tarnist looking solemn and distant, but Tarnist brightens up when he sees Hilario-- he has something good for him to eat! Hilario is confused by the feast, and Tarnist explains that since it's Hilario's last life, he wants him to have things that will make him happy. Hilario counters that he doesn't want gifts, it's the things you ave to earn that are special. Hilario wants body warmth, another person's heart, and love. The memory ends with Hilario thinking that he will never have that again.
chapter 8, pages 9-13
Hilario is summoned vua magic circle by a wizard looking to make a contract. Hilario gets straight to the point: He has only one wish, and that is to die. It's a challenge, and many magicians before have failed, but Tarnist accepts. Tarnist takes Hilario home with him, turns out Tarnist is the magic king. Lucky~ he'll get to eat well again. Hilario picks Tarnist up and promises to protect him, and gets yelled at. Gets yelled at more for checking that Tarnist is actually a guy. Idiot cat.
chapter 23, pages 6-12
Hilario wakes up in den, a treehouse surrounded by a fence and hunting traps, and decides to go hunting. One of his traps accidentally caught and killed another shapeshifter-- Hilario won't eat him, but he has no pity for the dead cat. Later he's attacked by and defeats a tiger. The tiger is a wild beast that forgot how to talk. Both of the other cats are idiots.
pages 14-15
Hilario attends a festival with Tarnia. It celebrates an annual event where the king uses his own magic to charge the citizens' jewels, enabling even non-magicians to use a little magic. Hilario compliments the festival and praises Tarnia as amazing.
Tarnia asks him what he honestly thinks-- Hilario teases at Tarnia's ego ("You think you're superior because you're the king"), but says that Tarnia is a gentle person. Hilario asks if Tarnia is hesitating in fulfilling Hilario's wish to die. Before Tarnia can answer, Hilario tells him "I'm fine. It's already fine."
This is the first festival he's attended, and that one will be remembered most strongly, but this memory will also have instances of later festivals. Decades and decades of attending the same festival every year and watching Tarnia perform his magic. Every year it's amazing.
